LivingRoom – Christoph Pepe Auer, bass clarinet & Manu Delago, hang

After playing together in various bands and projects Christoph Pepe Auer and Manu Delago discovered how superbly
their two instruments, bass clarinet and hang, complimented each other. The ‘hang’ is a spherical instrument invented in 2000 by Sabina Schärer and Felix Rohner as a result of working with Steeldrum, Gong, Udu and Gatham. By bringing these two instruments together they created a new sound which is presented by probably the world’s first bass clarinet and hang duo.
This fascinating formation will be presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

City of Dreams: Vienna 1900 - 1935

Esa-Pekka Salonen - conductor
Julian Johnson - series consultant
This unique nine month exploration of the music and culture of Vienna between 1900 and 1935 will feature orchestral concerts in 18 cities, chamber music, films, study days, a unique interactive online resource and a virtual Viennese café in Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.
“Vienna in 1900 was a unique cultural melting pot, where musicians, philosophers, poets, painters and scientists met together in the city’s many cafes, and created works of art and science that changed the course of history. I have always believed that the music of this period has a very special artistic significance; we are all looking forward to offering our audiences the chance to experience the music ofMahler, Schoenberg and Berg in the context of Klimt’s paintings, Josef Hoffmann’s tableware and Freud’s dreams.”

Haydn Year 2009
2009 will mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). His music and legacy will be celebrated around the world on this occasion. Haydn’s connections to Britain were varied. He came to London several times, and it is here that he composed some of his best-known works, including the Surprise, Military, Drumroll and London symphonies. Haydn also composed arrangements for nearly 400 Scottish songs. The Haydn 2009 anniversary will feature in concerts, some of which will be co-organised and supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum London, all over the UK.
