Johannes Vogl Talk
Coinciding with the London Festival of Architecture, the Austrian Cultural Forum London, on Tuesday 2nd July 2008, 7pm, will host an artist talk with Vienna-based artist Johannes Vogl. Vogl will discuss his most ambitious project Five Moons, 2007 with curator Adriana Marques. Working with a commercial construction company on the outskirts of Vienna’s city centre, Vogl installed four lightboxes displaying beautifully etched moons suspended on construction cranes. This poetic installation instigates discussions about the physical process of building our cities as well as the complex and often political processes required to realise artworks in public spaces. Vogl will discuss the genesis and development of this project, as well as his other works which have infiltrated our built environment.
Recent works by Johannes Vogl are currently on show in The Story Cellar, a solo exhibition of Vogl’s work at the Austrian Cultural Forum as part of the Visual Arts Platform which is curated by Adriana Marques and Eva Martischnig.

Johannes Vogl’s playful inventions are both humorous and functional, made from make-shift materials, they appeal to a universal sense of creativity. His first major public work, “5 moons”, has recently been installed at a building site in Vienna, shining moons on light boxes attached to cranes, mixing a sense of romance and visual trickery. For the Visual Arts Platform, Vogl will exhibit a collection of his artistic inventions.
